Radical Grace in Life and Leadership

WE ARE PEOPLE OF THE SECOND CHANCE

Posted by Mike Foster and Jud Wilhite:

So what do you say in your first post on the first day of a new movement about second chances? (Btw, this will probably be our longest post too…from here on out, MUCH SHORTER!)

The first thing we want to say is “Thank you.”

Thank you for joining us. Thank you for your contribution over the past couple weeks in helping us get this started. Thanks for your phone calls, emails, messages, texts, tweets, retweets, posting to FB profiles, blog posts, and your kindness through this really hard season.

You will never know how much it meant to us. On those difficult days where we wanted to throw in the towel or punch a wall, you were there. And it means a lot. Now we want to be there for each other.

We want to say thank you to all 5000 of you who joined our Facebook group and those who are now following us on Twitter.  Special thanks to our friend Jim Gray who led this charge. WOW!

By the way, if you want to subscribe to this blog just click here.

SO WHAT IS PEOPLE OF THE SECOND CHANCE?

People of the Second Chance gives voice to a scandalous movement of radical grace in life and leadership.
We challenge the common misconceptions about failure and success and stand with those who have hit rock bottom in their personal and professional lives. We are a community that is committed to stretch ourselves in the areas of relational forgiveness, personal transparency, and advocate for mercy over judgment.

We are not ashamed of our scars, wounds, or failures and leverage them as a source of strength and character development.

We support social justice organizations and advocate for the vulnerable, forgotten, and left behind.

All are welcome here but in many ways this place  is  for the busted up, messed up, and broken down. Grace is really messy so lets just plan on this being a messy place. You see we want this to be a community of  both the betrayed and the betrayers. The victims and the perpetrators. We want this to be a gathering of healing for those who have been wronged and those who were wrong. Why? Because we believe grace, renewal, and second chances fall on both sides.

It’s important to know that POTSC is not just about embracing our failures and wallowing in our pain. We want to challenge each other to dream about what we do after we’ve messed it all up. We are about admitting our failures authentically, ammending our wrongs adequately, and then getting back to work. This is about action steps, practical application, shooting straight and moving forward.

Over the next weeks we have A LOT to talk about. We will be sharing more about what it means to be a part of People of the Second Chance and more core values. Some of our blog posts you will love and we are sure some of the ideas you will disagree with. But all of it will make us better at  living out radical grace in life and leadership.

SO WHAT’S NEXT?

1. We will be blogging 4-5 posts a week. You can subscribe here. We promise to share as transparently as we possibly can hoping that it will help you on your journey. Also, both of us will be actively engaged in the comments section as you share your thoughts.

2. We are excited to be partnering with Dave and Nick at Prolifik Films to do a series of videos around the themes, concepts and stories of People of the Second Chance. It’s going to blow your mind!

3. We are going to do 6 online events in the first part of 2010 revolving around radical grace in life and leadership.

4. There are no plans to revamp, revise, or rewrite Deadly Viper Character Assassins or it’s material. All our focus, priorities, and efforts will be directed towards People of the Second Chance and this new opportunity.

5. For the masses of people who signed up to get a POTSC sticker, we are printing labels and stamping and licking envelopes like crazy right now.  They are coming soon.

6. We LOVE our new blog designed by PlainJoe Studios and are looking for additional ways to better serve people online through technology and the web.

7. We are working on a People of the Second Chance t-shirt. We will tell you how to get your hands on one soon.

8. We are energized about the partnerships that are forming with organizations like Catalyst , Prison Fellowship, and others.

9. We will be speaking at different events and conferences on the topics of People of the Second Chance. We will be posting upcoming events on this blog.

Welcome to People of the Second Chance.

Since I am neither on FB nor Twitter what is this about a sticker? (Don’t know if it was because of my comment or not but thanks for the place to put our website.

Guys, can you speak to the hard reality of having fallen to sexual sin/crime like a sex offender and working through the issues of restoration in the church?? I am in this work and the Lepers of today are not just shunned, but the church will not talk about godliness, virtue and the effects of not living clean. So much so that there are scarce resources for these folk when they get ourt of jail or prison. The elephant in our living room is the perception that there is no sexual sin in the Body of Christ….at least not until another pastor or teacher or family member goes down in media flames and shame. Can you dig into this some more?? In Jesus still

Thank you thank you thank you! I’m still trying to figure out what this is exactly but it has hit me right where I live. I have been blessed with so much grace and have been seeking a way to serve by helping others who are where I am/have been. Maybe I was led here to help find my way there?

Wow. This is so amazing and encouraging. I know POTSC was something you stood for all along, but I’m thrilled you’re camping out on this message and saying, “This is what it’s really all about.” Amen.

I’ve spent the last 3-4 years working with people in the broken places of their lives and hearts, helping them find healing and regain their strength and voice … but over the last year, God has broadened my vision to see those who have inflicted the pain as just as in need and worthy of love, grace, forgiveness, and redemption. This is a major shift in my life, and I’m thankful for it.

Interested to see how Prison Fellowship plays a part. Prison and jail ministry is one direction God has led me forward in this shift.

Grace and peace,
Christianne

Yeessss! Hurrah for you guys and this blog and movement which Jesus started really…lets bring it on as we are the people who got a second chance…

…and then another…and another…and another….

I was gutted when I heard that Deadly Viper had been ended – so many people have been asking me ‘where can I get a copy’ since I got a copy from Jud’s lovely wife, Lori.

Jud, your teaching while I’ve been coming to Central ’s facebook campus has been so encouraging and kept me going over the last couple of months as I struggle to be who God made me to be as part of ‘the church’ and get the balance of life and leadership while heading up a pregnancy crisis centre ministry which shows compassion and mercy rather than judgment and manipulation.

I’m so looking forward to what you guys will bring to this blog.

Cheering you on here in Edinburgh, Scotland and supporting you and your families in prayer.

Much love and every blessing, LA :)

YES! Welcome back… or, just… Welcome! I’ve been praying for you guys and looking forward to this day. I have appreciated your ministry and benefitted from your insight in this past year. Really looking forward to tracking with you on POTSC. And in a way, this is a PERFECT picture of what you guys are all about. The Second Chance. In other words: REDEMPTION. God bless you AND your ministry!

Tim, yes, we will definitely address these questions in the future. This may be the toughest area for us to navigate. Look forward to discussion.

Congratulations on launching this new initiative and with much fanfare!

I’m starting to hear people ask me about how radical grace can really be. I’ll be staying tuned here to see if this would be a safe place for a church leader / pastor who need a second chance.

There are many who have fallen from grace because of adultery, infidelty, immorality, or what have you, and how the power of grace can heal and restore. We often only hear the ugly side of things when moral failure is revealed (current news not excepted) and we rarely ever hear of the beauty of the person’s restoration and redemption.

I am just now becoming aware of you guys’ ministry. I found you from surfing the Evangelical Covenant website and links. Sounds like you really had a skirmish with those folks. I learned a long time a ago not to take myself too seriously. As a member of that denomination, I have been sparring with them over their idolatry on their seminary website. They don’t seem to know that there are those of us who don’t share their politcal views. Keep up your excellant work. Psalm 19:14. Tom Erickson

I'm glad to see you innovative thought about how we can experience grace of our Lord and Savior. I don't know why Christians move so slowly when it comes to embracing new concepts to grow in faith and grace. Everything else in the age is innovating and evolving. Without compromising the truth, I think its past time for Christians to seek to discover better ways to grow spiritually in Gods grace.
