This week I am bachelor. My wife, kids and our little fluffy dog are all at Hume Lake till Saturday. They have been gone 8 hours and I already miss them.

So here are some activities and strategies I will be throwing myself into to stay out of trouble:

1. Go to bed early. Wake up early.

2. Go hang with my best friend in Vegas on Monday and Tuesday. Jud get the mancave ready!

3. Throw back a couple of bottles of Coca-Cola.

4. Play music that wifey doesn’t like VERY LOUD! Let Jay Z, Radiohead, and Sigur Ros rock!

5. Identify feeding schedule/strategy that does not involve Chick-Fil-A or hot dogs every night.

6. Spend time writing and working on new book “Gracenomics” that comes out this fall.

7. Park my 1993 Toyota Camry totally crooked in the garage….Cuz I can.

8. Go to Mom and Dad’s house for dinner on Wednesday night.

9. Find stuff in the house that I can sell on Ebay so I can buy a new Iphone 4.0.

10. Stay busy and active. Trouble is found in boredom.

11. Write a blog about being a bachelor.

ANY OTHER TIPS OR IDEAS THAT YOU WOULD SUGGEST? HELP!

Mike! Yo! It sounds like you have a solid plan. But i'll add one to your list so you can complete another. Sell you current iPhone on Craigslist to someone who needs it (depending on what model you have you can probably get AT LEAST $200 for it.) THEN go buy your new iPhone!

    Good luck! Bach it up!

    Grace and peace

    I love Sigur Ros!

You can clean the house top to bottom for her!

that one tip by the wife is probably enough

  • @koalainscotland

Make time to phone your wife and kids every day to see how they are doing and tell them how much you miss them?

Mike…love these suggestions. I have to add disabling the Internet at home. My fam will be leaving me at the end of the week. Just wish I lived closer to Vegas. ;-)

oh man you have a great way with headlines.

my wife was gone for a week, two weeks ago! I could have used this list then. I definitely need a mancave in my life, either at a friend's, or in my basement :)

Trouble is definitely found in boredom. I found that keeping a running list of all the stuff in the house that needed fixing kept me out of trouble.

Spiritual retreat, read, do as much of your list in public as possible? Which may induce more eating dinner at Chick-Fil-A :D

    does skype count?

Use #1 as an opportunity to go for a run… a run before bed or a run before your day starts. My wife had a job that took her away for 2 weeks of each month; I started running and besides losing 30 pounds in three months, I found new neighbourhoods for my wife and I to take our labs and explore, newfound time to catch up on podcasts and new music and some great one-on-one with God. And after a week of running, Chik-Fil-A doesn't seem so bad :)

great idea! in fact i just finished a run this am :)

they are the best…and yes i will make sure the house is nice and clean when they get back…otherwise i might get in real trouble.

what???!!!! seriously? ive heard that but is that true? i guess im in total disbelief! :)

Well I do this everyday so I seem to be a pro at what to do when your wife is away.
I go to starbucks a lot.
Grill and smoke my pipe (they go hand in hand I think)
    Play video games

I will stop there because this could really make me look even more bad and ruin my chances :)

You could visit STL, just saying.

im totally impressed with the grilling and smoking the pipe combo…impressive! STL sounds like fun but a bit of a drive.

I am with you on all but number 5. But, since we don't have a Chik-fil-a here, I would probably eat Subway every night.

Go donate time to others and serve your community….find a neighbor who needs to lawn mowed, hand out with another family's kids while the parents go on a date, take food to someone in need

While in Vegas on tuesday (630pm-830pm)…stop by the CR Step Study sessions at Central w/ Jud… lots of fans there!

“10. Stay busy and active. Trouble is found in boredom.” Amen. I'm dealing with a spot of that myself.

Also, don't forget to scrank some Fort Minor while you're at it.

  • ryanguard

At least four hours… It's too bad you don't run a “Junky Airplane Club”.
