Posted by Jud Wilhite:

According to World Net Daily News, surveys show the average person tells four lies a day, or 1,460 a year for a total of 88,000 by the age of 60.

The most common lie is: “I’m fine.”

Others on the list include:

“Nice to see you.”

“Sorry I missed your call.”

“This tastes delicious.”

What are some other common lies people tell?

I would venture to say “uh huh, yeah” is a lie people say when they are “listening” especially to someone they love.

all about Christ,
David

I will pray for you

Oh, please. Why not talk about lies that really matter, instead of trivialities? The “I'm fine” so-called “lie” is a lot less harmful than, for example, people who call themselves Christians asking an appraiser to lie about their house value (which is what was reported by an appraiser from 10 Christians, all of whom came from a rather prominent church in Las Vegas), or people putting empty offering envelopes in collection plates, or condemning other Christians for sin that they themselves have in their life, or any number of others.

You're looking at what comes out of people's mouth, but God looks at the heart and the intent.

Jesus is Lord of my life.

Any lie I tell instead of just saying “I forgot”

That whole “putting empty offering envelopes in collection plates” happens way more than one might think. Our financial secretary gets at least 3 or 4 each week.

Maybe I'm naive, but I never thought about it until my girlfriend pointed out that people do it all the time. I had never thought about doing something like that for show, to impress the people around me – I always thought that a tithe or an offering was between me and God, and whatever I could offer was just that. In fact, I've never even used an envelope, and always put in cash – it's no one's business (except God) who I am or what I give, and I certainly never did it for the tax write-off.

No, I don't mind a bit.

Think nothing of it.

Those are the 2 that come to mind almost immediately. Sorry, but I haven't mastered the art of being honest without being brutal so I lie and say “Don't worry about it.”

I don't think that “Im fine” is trivial. I think it can be very dangerous actually. If you can't be honest about what is really going on in your life, that is a problem. It can be trivial things that you are “lying” about, but it can also be major things. I think the hardest thing for some christians to say is “Im struggling with _____(fill in the blank)”

 Posted by: Andrea Tackett // March 1st, 2010 at 10:54 am>

'It's fine'

'I totally forgot' (when it actually means, I remembered but omitted to make the time to do what I said I would do but don't want to admit that's the case)

'No of course I won't …….'

'Til death do us part'

'I'd never do that'

'Yes, it's a lovely dress/outfit' (when asked 'What do you think?')

…the list could go on and on and on and on…

interesting post.

No, that's a great haircut on you.
I heard every word you said.
I really appreciate your feedback.
No, I'm not struggling in that area at all.
It doesn't matter what other people think.
What you say doesn't matter as long as you do the right thing.
What you do doesn't matter as long as you say the right thing.
That was the last time, I swear.

lies i tell…..What!? Of course I dont eat at Chick-Fil-A 4 times a week!!!

Last year I read this from AidWorkers Network, a free service set up to enable aid workers to share practical advice and resources with each other. “The research we carried out indicates that there are only 1% totally honest and sincere people in the world who strive to maintain truth and Justice.” (By Sunimal Alles of The TIDY Center (Talents Identification and Development for everYone) – September 3, 2007) http://www.aidworkers.net/?q=node/1076#attachments

It sure made me take a look at myself, not only the lies I tell but the lies I believe. One of mine…”I'm sure it will be okay.”

“I understand.”

This one is huge… wow… and so poignant, as we've all had times of doubt.

 Posted by: Phil Thompson // March 2nd, 2010 at 9:30 am>

“no problem”

sometimes it's a big problem. but we don't say so b/c we think we're wrong to have a problem with something. maybe we are wrong sometimes, but maybe we're very right on other occasions. i wonder how different things would be if we stopped letting each other off the hook on important stuff…

I think the worst lies are the ones we tell ourselves:
“I don't deserve to be happy… to get that job… to be with someone like that…”
“I can never be like that person.”
“I'll never do that again.”
“No one will ever find out.”
“Just this one time.”
etc.
“This wont hurt anyone.”
