Yesterday in Washington Tony Hayward testified in front of congress on the BP oil disaster.

It was 7 hours of pompous politicians pointing fingers and a CEO who had no answers.

Congressmen huffed and puffed on their high horses and Hayward answered like the most incompetent CEO on the planet.

The whole event was the perfect picture of how we need to reinvent our ideas on grace and the massive inefficiencies of judgment.

And here’s a wild idea!!!! Maybe next time the boys in Washington and Tony Hayward could spend the day sucking up some oil instead of sucking up to the cameras.

It would be a lot more productive, redemptive, and grace efficient.

Standing ovation. The damage is done. Time to move on and clean it up.

Yeah and what's worse is that while these blowhards were busy preening for the cameras, the cleanup efforts were being hampered by the usual red tape and bureaucratic nonsense. Barges that can suck up tens of thousands of gallons of oil were stopped from going out by the Coast Guard. Why? Because they needed to confirm there were fire extinguishers and life jackets on board. Seriously.

Those who aren't personally touched by the devastation (who don't have oil in their backyards) have the luxury of living life as usual, isolated from the damage. I would love to see our congressmen go down there–every single one of them–and observe the impact on marine life and local economies and families. We need personal connection to rally us to the type of urgency we'd rally if it were our own lives and local economies on the line.

i agree! it would be a lot more proactive then having meetings about it 1000 miles away.
