WHAT IS THE DRIVING HOME EXPRESS?

The DRIVING HOME EXPRESS is a traveling interactive experience that helps raise awareness and relief for the mobile homeless community. We do this by bringing a 1970 “Graphic” Cadillac to your event and then collecting unused gift cards from the attendees at your event.

WHO ARE THE MOBILE HOMELESS?

One of the fastest growing populations of the homeless community are the “Mobile Homeless.” They are the working poor and families just like yours. They are individuals who have fallen on hard financial times and are left with few options for housing. With nowhere to turn, they choose to use their vehicles for shelter.

Many have been hit by the foreclosure epidemic and have lost their home. Others have lost their jobs and can’t pay the rent and are evicted. Sometimes they are college students who can pay tuition but not housing.

Temporary housing is overbooked and the waiting lists for viable housing options are back logged for months.

People of the Second Chance has partnered with Gift Card Giver, Junky Car Club, Laundry Love, and Invisible People and are providing on the ground support to help individuals and families who are part of this homeless community.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

You can bring the Driving Home Express to  your college event, birthday party, youth group, conference, or worship services. Here is how to do it.

1. PICK A DATE:
Let us know the date and what your event is all about.

2. PARK CAR AT YOUR EVENT:
We show up with the car and park it where ever you want! At the outside entrance, inside an auditorium, or even on the stage!

3. SHARE THE MISSION AT YOUR EVENT:
You take a few minutes to highlight the issues of Mobile Homelessness within your event and how people can help. You can show our pre-produced 3 minute video, have one of our representatives share, or you can do it all by yourself. It’s quick and easy.

4. COLLECT UNUSED GIFT CARDS FROM ATTENDEES:
After sharing with the audience what this is all about, you collect unused gift cards from the attendees. You can pass a bucket or just have people drop them off as they leave.

We are not asking for cash from people. We simply want their gift cards which we then convert into practical resources for the MH community.

HOW DO THE GIFT CARDS WORK?

Every year over $60 billion worth of gift cards are sold. About 10% of those cards are never used by consumers. This leaves billions of dollars of untapped resources.

Most people carry a few gift cards in their wallets that have probably been sitting there for a while. We simply ask for those.

We then take all the gift cards collected and consolidate them into practical resources for the homeless community.

CAN I JUST GIVE TO THIS CAUSE?

You don’t have to host an event. You can simply send in your gift cards and we will make sure they go to the mobile homeless community.

STEP 1: Use as much of your card as you want (or send a full card).
STEP 2: Write how much is left on your card using a permanent marker.
STEP 3: Place the card in an envelope and send it to our partner Gift Card Giver:
