0. Got an advance copy of Carlos Whittaker’s new album. It’s hot. I’ve been listening to it A LOT! And I love that the song “God of Second Chances” was inspired by our little black and white POTSC sticker. It comes out in April.

1. On Friday we shot our first POTSC video how our broken parts can be made beautiful. Prolifik Films shot Stephanie’s story and you can see the pics here. Will be available at the end of March.

2. Charles Lee is hosting the Ideation Conference in April. Love what Charles is doing. Get the deets.

3. I’m heading to Bangkok, Thailand next week. Excited to be connecting with friends from Newsong BKK and other orgs. Not excited about the 18 hour non-stop flight.

4. Hijacked has been a great series! If you have missed any of it visit Central’s media page.

5. I’m reading the new book by Dan and Chip Heath about change called “Switch.” Reading it on my Iphone. I’m curious, does anybody by real books anymore?

6. Currently we have 6,918 peeps part of the People of the Second Chance Fan page. Take a moment and share the link on your FB profile page. Can we break 7000?

7. Apple has “Mac Evangelists.” Star Trek has “Trekkies.” What about calling people who are raving fans of grace and second chances “TWOFERS?” Just a thought.

THE PERFECT TOTAL BS STORY

I’ve stopped listening to stories that end so…..perfectly. Not that I have anything against stories like that but I am just not that interested.

I’m more captivated by the unresolved, complicated, messy, still being worked out story. The story called REAL LIFE! That resonates with me more than the image management propaganda we tell each other.

Let me be honest…I have LESS perfectly happy ending stories. I have a bunch of rough around the edges stories that are frankly…not perfect. And you probably do too. And yet we love to put the best spin on everything. We love the thought of everything ending well with a big cherry on top but that isn’t the journey we’ve been promised.

And just a note to my preacher friends (who I love.) We’re skeptical of your life stories that always end so wonderfully, with crystal clear resolution, and the they lived happily ever after. I’m not really buying it and I’m guessing neither is your congregation.

Listen, nothing wrong with a good heartwarming and inspiring story but if that’s all we’re talking about…well you’re selling us (and yourself) a bunch of BS.

NOT ABOUT ME

I’m smiling as I write this. I just got off the phone with one of our staff who was sharing our global ministry vision with someone in Dallas.

The person asked, “Tell me why I’ve never heard of Jud Wilhite.”

The staff member replied, “Because it isn’t about Jud. It is about Jesus and it is about the movement of sharing God’s grace with the world.”

The guy smiled and said, “That is so refreshing…”

As the conversation was relayed to me I just paused to thank God. There are already enough celebrity pastors to weird out the known world.

Let’s make Jesus the celebrity and let’s celebrate his grace!

That means that every day we all faces choices in our lives to make it about us, but we can joyfully yield to God and make it all about him.

STOP LIVING LITTLE

After we have failed the tendency is to retreat into living a small life. Less risk. Safer moves. Fear based decisions.

I call it “Living Little” and it is a nasty thing. It’s a perfectly natural response after a failure but you’ve got to fight it.

If we live little we think we will avoid personal pain or prevent causing others pain due to our mistakes. Don’t fall for this type of thinking.

I totally embrace what James Cameron(Avatar, Titanic) had to say…

“Don’t put limitations on yourself. Other people will do that for you…failure has to be an option in art and exploration because it’s a leap of faith. In whatever you’re doing, failure is an option, but fear is not.”

People of the Second Chance don’t live little.
