I wanted to update you on some exciting stuff.

1. My family and I will be living in Bangkok, Thailand for the Summer. I will be developing some new initiatives for POTSC, building relationships, working on PlainJoe business, and hanging with some Newsong BKK friends. We leave LA at the end of July and will be back October 1.

2. In the fall we will be releasing a hardback mini-book about the power of a second chance and how grace can transform EVERYTHING! We will be releasing this self published “zip book” at Catalyst.

3. I have just accepted an offer from Harper One to publish a book called “People of the Second Chance.”

The book will come out late next year and will be a creative and practical exploration at how we can be second chance people. It will be full of fresh ideas on grace, strategies for second chancers, killer designs, oozing with pop-culture sensibilities, and a couple super secret surprises. I’m pretty sure it won’t be like any other book out there.

Another change is that Jud and I will not be co-writing it together. It’s just plain ole me this time. As Jud and I talked through the POTSC strategy, schedules, other projects that are in motion for both Jud and myself, we decided that I would write this book.

And for all you drama lovers…Yes, Jud and I are still BEST FRIENDS, yes we are still working together, yes Jud is still part of POTSC and yes it’s TOTALLY STUPID that I have to say this.

That’s it for now! A lot more news and details are on the horizon.

Thanks again for all your love and support. You guys are incredible!

BELONGINGNESS AND TED HAGGARD

ted and gayle haggard potsc

Psychologist Abraham Maslow defined “belongingness” as the most important need after safety on his hierarchy of needs.

Our deep desire to be included and wanted is core to who we are.

So as I thought about some of the pointed criticism that Ted and Gayle Haggard received this week about starting St. James Church like…

1. The questioning of Ted’s “real” sexuality…

2. Calling Ted and Gayle dishonest…

3. The “concern” that they don’t maintain high enough Christian leadership standards to minister to people…

4. Critiquing the fact that they had a press conference…

With all of this, we failed to express belongingness.

Instead of us helping Ted and Gayle feel included, I’m afraid we have sadly added to their loneliness, isolation, and separation….again.

Instead of love…we chose fear and skepticism.

Instead of helping them write a new story, we contributed obnoxious comments on blogs.

Instead of the benefit of the doubt, we highlighted what was wrong and reminded them of their past.

And for that I am disheartened…embarrassed…and determined to do something to change it.

IM A RAGING HATER OF INSTANT REPLAY

I’m a raging hater of instant replay in sports!!!

I watched the Lakers/Celtics game last night. It was the first time I had seen this new “feature” in the NBA. COMPLETELY PATHETIC!

I’m tired of refs camping under hoods, watching TV monitors, and consulting some all knowing “ref in the sky” who is ALWAYS right.

Our obsession with perfection and getting it right all the time is…pure sickness. And the instant replay is a symptom of the disease.

Maybe sports could learn something about how life is suppose to work from Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galaragga and umpire Jim Joyce.

I could only hope.

What do you think?

THINK ABOUT SHANGHAI

The photos above are taken in the exact same spot in Shanghai, China.

The top photo was taken in 1990. The lower photo in 2010.

IN JUST 20 YEARS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CITY!!!!

When you feel like your failures will always define who you are…that things will never change…that you’re stuck with what you got…

just think about Shanghai…and don’t lose faith.
