So let’s put ugly politics aside for just a minute and deal with this beautiful truth:

PRESIDENT OBAMA IS POTSC.

This week he placed a phone call to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie thanking him for giving Michael Vick a second chance.

While on vacation in Hawaii, the president gave a virtual fist bump to Lurie for sticking his neck out for Vick after the dog fighting scandal.

Lurie told Sports Illustrated reporter Peter King that Obama said, “So many people who serve time never get a fair second chance,” and that the President was “passionate about it.”

He congratulated the Eagles owner for “doing something on such a national stage that showed our faith in giving someone a second chance after such a major downfall.”

The White House verified the statements and the conversation.

Maybe this is why Barack Obama was just voted the most admired man in the world.

He certainly has my admiration on lending his platform to the message of second chances and giving support to Michael Vick.

Thanks for being POTSC Mr. President!

i’ll be honest Mike, I’m not an Obama fan. but I did like what he did with giving props to Michael Vick.

not an obama fan either but glad he had at least one moment of clarity this year. hoping for a few more. as a pit bull owner and prison ministry volunteer, i love the michael vick story of redemption. i love how tony dungy has been involved and mentored. HE would be a better candidate for most admired but then again the world often admires the “wrong” people.

In echoing others, I too am not a huge proponent of President Obama (though I’m not so blind that I would say he’s failed in every capacity since arriving in Office). That being said, this is a huge deal. A prominent sports owner took a serious risk in offering a second chance. It could’ve failed miserably. Miserably. But he took the risk, offered grace and a second chance. President Obama noticed (it’s tough for people not to notice), but took it a step further in reaching out to give praise to Lurie. He didn’t have to do it, just like Lurie didn’t have to give Vick a chance. But Obama did. And that (should) send a loud message.

Maybe I’m missing something but I was kind of frustrated that he (Obama) did that. Giving a recovered meth addict a job, that’s a POTSC action. Hiring a man who can potentially earn you and your team millions, that’s a well thought out risk. the Eagles Media people can frame it any way they like. I don’t see anything other than a business move. I guess I’m more jaded and cynical than I thought! and PS: I LOVE LOVE LOVE OBAMA. Just fyi. :)

I wish the President would start by being a person of the FIRST chance. It’s hypocritical to trumpet Michael Vick and his ‘success’ while there is breed-specific legislation on the books in cities like Denver. These laws punish dogs and their owners for nothing more than who they are and for what idiots like Mike Vick inflict on others animals of their breed.

Maybe our President, being the ‘Constitutional scholar’ that he is, should stop pandering for votes and publicity and should make a phone call to protect the rights of his constituents.

Right on man. Missed this the first time around. Funny how this kinda got political anyway.

I actually am an Obama fan so…yeah.

As a president should be…this is a great example of what our leaders should be doing. Giving 2nd chances to those who are willing to admit their mistakes and try to be better people. No matter what side you are on politically, Obama and Lurie did the Jesus like thing…encouraging 2nd chances for those that most people feel don’t deserve it!
